Thigh Lift

Thigh Lift Introduction

Many people suffer from sagging skin at the inner thigh and knee. This can occur after massive weight loss from bariatric surgery or due to genetic predisposition. Oftentimes, the inner thigh does not respond to diet and exercise efforts, and skin laxity in this area is a tough problem. If you are considering surgery to address the inner thigh, a thigh lift may be appropriate. Dr. Bianca Molina is an award-winning and empathic provider who prides herself on establishing relationships with her patients. Read below to understand if a thigh lift may be an option to help you obtain a more contoured and tightened appearance.

What is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift, also known as a Thighplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove unwanted fat and skin from your inner and/or outer thighs, giving you a slimmer, tightened, and more toned look to the upper legs. A thigh lift may be necessary when diet and exercise can no longer help.

A Thigh Lift targets issues such as loose and sagging skin, excess fat deposits, and poor thigh contour due to aging, sudden weight loss or gain, or genetic predisposition. This procedure can shift your overall proportions, giving you an improved silhouette.

There are four techniques for a Thigh Lift in New York:

Medial Thigh Lift

Also known as an inner thigh lift, uses an incision along the groin crease and extends back towards the buttock. This allows the incision to be hidden in the upper inner thigh and addresses mild-moderate skin laxity of the inner thigh.

Vertical Thigh Lift

A vertical thigh lift is used for more severe inner thigh skin laxity or excess skin. This requires an up-and-down incision along the inner thigh, extending from the upper inner thigh to just above the knee. An extension may also be necessary at the groin crease as well.

Mini Thigh Lift

This procedure is used to target the upper-inner thigh area only. It entails a shorter, smaller incision than other types of thigh lifts.

A Thigh Lift is also commonly done in conjunction with liposuction. Adding liposuction to a thigh lift procedure helps to finely contour the outer thigh, inner thigh, and inner knee areas. Liposuction with a thigh lift may also help to remove more skin safely.

Thigh Lift First Step

What’s the first step?

The first step in pursuing a thigh lift with Dr. Bianca Molina is to schedule a consultation. At your consultation, Dr. Molina will perform a comprehensive assessment and understand your goals for thigh lift surgery. During the consultation, Dr. Molina will carefully evaluate your thigh area, discuss your medical history, and outline the various surgical techniques.

Dr. Molina will work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals.

A member of our Concierge Team will then provide you with a surgical quote and detailed pricing. We will work with you to schedule your procedure, provide detailed pre-operative instructions, and ensure you are completely ready for your surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of Thigh Lift Surgery

On the day of your thigh lift surgery, Dr. Bianca Molina will welcome you and review your surgical plan. You will then meet the anesthesia and nursing teams, who will help ensure your comfort and safety throughout the surgery. Surgery is performed only at an accredited facility and in an accredited operating room.

Once you are in the operating room, general anesthesia will be given by the anesthesia team. Dr. Molina will then begin the surgical procedure with a focus on eliminating any unwanted fat and skin in your thigh area. Dr. Molina performs thigh lift surgery using a combination of liposuction and direct skin excision.

The procedure involves the removal of excess skin, followed by lifting and suturing the supportive connective tissue of the thigh. Dissolvable suture is used to close the skin incisions. Surgical drains are placed during thigh lift surgery and you will be taught how to manage these at home. A postoperative dressing will be applied to your thighs, in addition to a compression garment to manage the swelling.

While the duration of the procedure may vary for each patient, on average, a thigh lift will take approximately two to three hours to complete.

Thigh Lift Recovery

When finished, you will be closely monitored in the recovery area. Dr. Molina, the anesthesia team, and the nursing staff all monitor you to be sure you have recovered from anesthesia and that your pain is controlled prior to going home. You will need an approved escort to take you home after surgery. Your postoperative instructions will again be reviewed with you to be sure you are comfortable with everything.

During the recovery period following your thigh lift surgery, it is common to experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Dr. Molina will ensure you have the appropriate medications for pain. Leg elevation, compression wraps, and walking around your home are all required after surgery. Dr. Molina also recommends protein supplementation to aid the healing process.

Many patients are able to return to work after a week or two but must continue wearing compression garments. Activity is gradually increased over the first few weeks after surgery. Surgical drains are typically removed at 1-2 weeks after surgery. It is important to avoid strenuous activities or exercise for 6-8 weeks or until cleared by your surgeon.
